Sealy Unveils ‘Past, Present, and Future of Sleep’ at NBF Bed Show

As Sealy, one of the world’s leading mattress brands, prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of joining the National Bed Federation (NBF), the company is also commemorating its own 50th birthday this year. To mark the occasion, the Cumbria-based manufacturer is planning to launch a new range of mattresses at the NBF’s Bed Show in September.

With a workforce of 250 employees at its manufacturing plant, Sealy has seen millions of pounds in investment over the last three years under its new owners, Sealy Joint Ventures (comprising Tempur Sealy International and Dyer Holdings).

Since 2020, Sealy UK has undergone a transformation under its new independent ownership, with large-scale investment in the business resulting in rapid growth. Three new spring machines have been installed at the Cumbria plant, and another five have been reinstated. Additionally, the company’s team has been re-skilled, and Sealy has fully ‘re-invented’ its brand and launched an entirely new range of products.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, Sealy will be displaying its unique coil technology at the NBF’s Bed Show in Telford on September 24 and 25, and revealing a collection comprising three brand new mattress designs.

“It’s great to see how far we’ve come, with the NBF at our side, since we were established in September 1974,” comments Mark Tuley, Chief Commercial Officer of Sealy UK. “While it’s been a long time since we joined the NBF, we have remained committed to manufacturing products to the very highest standards in order to stay at the forefront of the sector. Through its strictly audited Code of Practice, there’s no doubt that the NBF plays a key role in maintaining and improving the reputation and standing of its members.”

Mr. Tuley continues, “With our focus on ‘the past, present and future of sleep,’ we are proud to have been able to adapt, and our technical innovation is continuing to set us apart – we now have one of the best manufacturing facilities globally.”

“The NBF is a great forum and a very effective trade body which benefits everyone,” he adds. “Not only is it very active in campaigning, for example, by driving environmental initiatives, but it also brings together people in the industry as well as attracting young talent. Membership of the NBF is a must for any reputable bed manufacturer, and its support around the latest compliance and legislative issues is invaluable to members.”

Nichola Pass, marketing director at Sealy UK, adds, “A key date in our calendar is The Bed Show, organized by the NBF, where exhibiting bed manufacturers must be a member of the NBF – we regularly exhibit there and schedule our product launches to be revealed at the show. For the first time this year, we will only be displaying mattresses featuring our Sealy posturepedic coil technology on our stand, and we’re excited to be launching a special 50th anniversary range comprising three new mattress designs. We’re also looking forward to welcoming retailers and suppliers to celebrate with us at our birthday events at the show.”

Tristine Hargreaves, executive director of the NBF, said, “Congratulations to Sealy on reaching this milestone. It’s always satisfying to see successful, British manufacturers continuing to invest and grow, and we look forward to supporting them over the next 50 years!”

Membership of the NBF offers a number of benefits, from technical, marketing, HR, and sustainability support to training and education, and health and safety services. Founded in 1912, the National Bed Federation is the recognized trade association representing UK manufacturers of beds and their suppliers. Its members today account for about 75% of the total UK bedding turnover.
