Four senior leaders at Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK have been honoured with the prestigious Fellowship from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), highlighting the firm’s strong foundations in the civil engineering sector. Contracts directors Eryl Roberts, Garod Evans, Geraint Thomas, and Hefin Lloyd-Davies have each received this esteemed accolade, which is internationally recognised as the highest honour for professionals in the industry.

The Fellowship signifies a high level of leadership expertise and significant achievements within the field. Keith Jones FICE, the regional director at ICE Wales Cymru, provided support, advice, and guidance throughout the process. Collectively, the quartet boasts over 100 years of experience with Jones Bros, having advanced through the ranks to become contracts directors in 2018.

Since 2023, all four have served on the board alongside members of the Jones family, led by chairman Huw Jones MBE, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of the company. Huw commented, “Jones Bros prides itself on providing opportunities for clear career progression, and Eryl, Garod, Geraint, and Hefin epitomise that mantra. All four of them are perfect examples of how far hard work and dedication can get you with our company, and I know they provide inspiration for team members at every level, from apprentices to more senior figures. For them to earn the ICE Fellowship is a testament to the constant growth and development taking place at Jones Bros.”

Hefin began his journey with the company in 1993 as a project civil engineer after completing a Higher National Diploma in civil engineering. Garod joined in 2010 as a project manager, having previously completed summer placements at Jones Bros from 1994 to 1997. Geraint and Eryl both started their careers with the firm as students in 2000 and 2001, respectively.

In recent years, Hefin has overseen major projects such as the A487 Caernarfon and Bontnewydd bypass and the B5605 Newbridge Landslip Remediation scheme. He stated, “It’s another milestone for both me and the company, with all four of the contracts directors receiving their Fellowship. It shows that Jones Bros is constantly evolving and determined to make year-on-year progress.”

Garod has worked on significant projects including the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, the world’s largest offshore wind farm, and North Kyle Wind Farm in Scotland. He remarked, “Support and collaboration is key to how we operate as a company, whether that’s personal development or on major UK-wide schemes. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the profession and support the development of future engineers.”

Geraint leads projects such as the Havant Thicket Reservoir, the UK’s first major water-storage reservoir in over three decades, and the Kinmel Bay Coastal Defence scheme. He expressed, “It was a tremendous experience and a real honour securing the Fellowship. The opportunities to grow at Jones Bros are clear for all to see but this just underlines the strength of collaboration and guidance, regardless of whether you are an apprentice or have many years of knowledge.”

Eryl is currently involved in projects including the Uskmouth Sustainable Energy Park development and the Cydnerth Project, which focuses on expanding the Morlais tidal energy scheme. He stated, “We are all proud and grateful to have received the Fellowship, which can act as a further springboard for even greater success at Jones Bros. The company is in a really strong position as we look to build on solid foundations by expanding our portfolio of work and clients we work with.”

Founded in the 1950s, Jones Bros operates one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people. The company is engaged in various sectors, including highways, flood and marine defence, reservoirs, waste management, and renewable energy across the UK. Additionally, it runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme that has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many senior managers having started as apprentices or in trainee roles. Over the years, the company has recruited hundreds of apprentices.
