Newbury Racecourse partners with Visit Malta to enhance raceday leisure appeal

Newbury Racecourse PLC, a highly diversified leisure business and operator of one of the UK’s premier racecourses, is pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with Visit Malta, the official tourism site for Malta, Gozo and Comino.

The partnership will see Visit Malta become the title sponsor of Hungerford Day – now named Visit Malta Hungerford Day – which is due to take place on the 16th August. The feature race of the day, the Group 2 seven-furlong contest worth £150,000, will be run as the Visit Malta Hungerford Stakes.

Following more than a decade of investment, Newbury today offers state-of-the-art leisure facilities including an on-site hotel, fantastic Conference & Events spaces, and first-class hospitality. To broaden its leisure appeal and attract a new generation of racegoers to the site, Newbury regularly hosts a series concerts, food and drink festivals, and seasonal events that bolt-on to a day of racing. As part of this summer’s programme of music events, the Visit Malta Hungerford Day will welcome iconic electronic band Clean Bandit to the stage. In addition, a selection of Maltese food and drink will be available for attendees to sample and purchase to celebrate the Maltese culture.

The Visit Malter Hungerford Day with performance from Clean Bandit is expected to build on Newbury’s successful recent history of flagship music concerts. Last year, more than 10,000 attendees were entertained by Sigala after the Weatherby’s Super Sprint, followed by Dizzee Rascal performing to crowds of more than 13,500 at last year’s BetVictor Hungerford Day.

The partnership marks an inaugural sponsorship in British Horseracing by Visit Malta, which is also partners of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and the Team Polti cycling team.
