Premier Modular Completes Key Sports Facility in the Netherlands
Premier Modular, a leading offsite manufacturer based in East Yorkshire, has successfully delivered a new sports facility in the Netherlands. This project includes a clubhouse, shower block, and catering facilities for the Municipality of Enschede, which oversees the city and its surrounding areas.
The modular facility, designed for long-term rental, will serve the local football club, Surinaamse Voetbal Vereniging 1991 (SVV ’91), for three years while their main sports park undergoes redevelopment. Competing in the District East, Saturday League five of the Dutch amateur football system, SVV’91 required a solution that would ensure continuity during construction.
In just six weeks, Premier Modular designed and installed a development comprising two buildings. The first structure is a two-bay shower block and changing area, featuring separate facilities for home and away teams. The second building serves as a community centre, which includes a clubhouse, meeting room, multi-use space, bar, and canteen with catering facilities. The total area of both buildings is 220 square metres, constructed using six modules with a ceiling height of 2.7m.
The project demanded a bespoke design, especially for the shower blocks, which posed challenges due to their fully open-plan layout, raised floors, and central gully drainage system. Ten shower bays were created with a raised floor and central gully, allowing for the entire shower system to be completed offsite according to the club’s precise specifications. Additionally, the development included a main distribution unit and a fire alarm system.
Designed with future flexibility in mind, the structure can accommodate additional floors or space as renovation projects progress. Jesper Wielinga, Project Manager at the Municipality of Enschede, commented: “We had very specific requirements for the project. The site sits on the boundary of a large residential housing estate, so the facility had to be aesthetically pleasing and constructed with minimal disruption to local residents. Premier Modular rapidly delivered a high-quality facility that met the club’s requirements and provided flexibility while staying within budget. We couldn’t be more satisfied with the collaboration.”
David Oakley, General Manager at Premier Modular, stated: “At Premier Modular, our focus is on delivering modern, sustainable buildings that support communities. On this project, our team’s meticulous planning and offsite expertise enabled us to overcome the site’s constraints and complete the installation and fit-out in just three days. By combining precision offsite manufacture with effective on-site delivery, we were able to complete a high-quality facility on time and to budget, while minimising disruption and meeting the client’s sustainability goals. Our modular solutions support a circular economy by reducing material waste, minimising carbon emissions, and ensuring buildings can be repurposed, reconfigured, or recycled at the end of life.”
This project exemplifies a growing trend within the sports sector, where organisations are increasingly opting for modular construction to provide high-quality facilities within significantly shorter timeframes compared to traditional building methods.
