Ravago Building Solutions, recognised as the UK’s original producer of extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation, has published new independent research revealing UK architects’ perspectives on the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) assessment. The study demonstrates how CCPI is restoring confidence in construction product manufacturers and influencing specification choices across the sector.

The survey, conducted earlier this year with 100 UK architects, focused on attitudes towards CCPI assessment. Among the key results, every architect surveyed (100%) expressed support for mandatory CCPI assessment covering manufacturers’ entire product ranges. Additionally, 99% indicated a greater likelihood of specifying products from manufacturers that have undergone CCPI assessment, while the same proportion said their trust in those manufacturers would increase as a result.

Furthermore, nine out of ten respondents described CCPI assessment as either very important or essential for the construction industry. A significant 97% acknowledged that misleading or ambiguous product information remains a persistent issue within the sector. Nearly all participants agreed that CCPI assessment would enhance their confidence in the credibility of sustainability-related claims made by manufacturers.

Architects identified clearer and more accurate product information, improved trust between manufacturers and architects, and elevated standards throughout the supply chain as the primary advantages of CCPI assessment. The commercial impact was equally evident, with 99% of respondents more inclined to specify CCPI-assessed products and an equal number reporting increased trust in those manufacturers.

The research also highlighted the commercial value architects place on verified information. Over half of those surveyed stated they would be somewhat willing to pay a premium for products from manufacturers meeting CCPI standards, while more than 40% said they would definitely be willing to do so. This suggests that verified compliance is increasingly regarded not only as best practice but also as an added value proposition.

Earlier this year, Ravago Building Solutions UK became the first XPS manufacturer to achieve CCPI conformity across its entire Ravatherm XPS product range. While some manufacturers have secured assessed status for individual products, Ravago’s comprehensive recognition across its full XPS portfolio underscores its dedication to delivering detailed product information that exceeds regulatory requirements.

The survey also revealed strong backing for broader adoption of the CCPI assessment process. On average, respondents estimated that approximately one-third of manufacturers do not consistently provide clear and accurate product information, with 97% affirming that misleading or ambiguous information remains problematic in the construction industry.

Sustainability emerged as another significant theme. Eight in ten architects rated sustainability as an important or essential factor when specifying products. However, around one-third admitted to rarely trusting manufacturers’ sustainability claims. Encouragingly, nearly all respondents said CCPI assessment would bolster their confidence in the authenticity of these claims.

Joan Ferrer, Commercial Director UK & IRE at Ravago Building Solutions UK, commented: “These findings show that architects place great value in transparency, accuracy and accountability from manufacturers. Trust has become a critical factor in specification decisions, and independent assessment through CCPI gives specifiers much-needed confidence that the information they are relying on is clear, credible and robust.”

He added: “We became the first XPS manufacturer to achieve assessed status across our full Ravatherm XPS range because we believe higher standards and clearer product information benefit the entire industry. We would encourage all manufacturers to engage with the CCPI process and help drive the culture of openness, responsibility and trust that construction not just expects but desperately needs.”

Ravago Building Solutions UK will be exhibiting at Futurebuild, held from 12 to 14 May at Excel London. Visitors interested in meeting the team and learning more about Ravago’s CCPI journey can find them at stand J86 on the Green Roof Organisation (GRO) Pavilion.
