Visitors and residents of Rhyl are being called upon to contribute their ideas on how to allocate £20 million in investment aimed at revitalising the popular North West coastal town over the next ten years.

The initiative encourages families who frequent Rhyl for holidays and day trips to share their views during the summer months, either while enjoying the town’s attractions or via an online survey accessible after their visit.

This phase of public engagement follows a community meeting convened by Clwyd North MP Gill German at Ffordd Las Community Centre. Attendees discussed priorities for the Pride in Place programme and proposed ideas to strengthen Rhyl as a destination for locals, businesses, and the millions of annual visitors.

Among the suggestions were initiatives to honour Rhyl’s entertainment heritage through heritage trails and events, develop more family-friendly beach attractions such as barbecues and seasonal fireworks, enhance the library and museum facilities, support schools in celebrating local history, foster independent businesses, and ensure the town’s ongoing evolution as a vibrant seaside resort.

The community discussion came on the heels of a well-attended engagement weekend at Rhyl Carnival, which attracted hundreds of children, families, businesses, charities, community groups, and market traders.

The Our Rhyl / Ein Rhyl Board is now expanding the dialogue by inviting residents and visitors to meet board members at various community events throughout the summer. These include St Mary’s Annual Parish Feast on 16 August, the Queen’s Market outdoor summer markets starting 2 August, Rhyl Miniature Railway’s Bank Holiday celebrations, and numerous local school, sports, and community gatherings.

For those unable to participate in person, feedback can be provided online through the campaign survey or by scanning QR codes displayed around the town.

Gill German commented: “It was fantastic to welcome so many residents to the discussion and hear such a wide range of thoughtful, ambitious and positive ideas for Rhyl’s future.”

She added: “People spoke passionately about protecting what makes Rhyl special while also looking ahead to new opportunities for families, young people, businesses and our community. Every conversation matters and I’ll be feeding all of the ideas back to the Our Rhyl Board as this work continues.”

“This funding represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and I want to make sure as many voices as possible are heard over the coming weeks and months. I’ll continue meeting with residents and encouraging everyone to get involved.”

The engagement campaign builds on over a year of consultations that have gathered thousands of responses from residents, businesses, and stakeholders, shaping a long-term vision for Rhyl.

In addition to community events, themed Action Groups are being formed to provide practical opportunities for people to help develop projects, set priorities, and support the programme’s delivery over the next decade.

Craig Sparrow, Chair of the Our Rhyl Board, said: “The response we’ve received has been incredibly encouraging. Whether it’s through Gill’s community discussion, Rhyl Carnival or conversations at local events, people are telling us they care deeply about the future of their town and want to play a part in shaping it.”

He continued: “If your organisation is holding an event, if your community group would like us to visit, or if you simply have an idea you’d like to share, please get in touch. This is a genuine opportunity for local people to help shape how £20 million of investment benefits Rhyl over the next 10 years.”

Every contribution will help shape the final vision for Rhyl, ensuring that future investment aligns with the aspirations of residents, workers, and the many visitors from Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, and the wider North West who return year after year.
