The Architects-Group Expands into Scotland with New Glasgow Office and Saulmore Bay Marina Project
National design practice Architects Group has opened an office in Scotland, headed by Ewan Ross RIAS.
The Architects-Group has launched its first office in Scotland, establishing a foothold in Glasgow City Centre as part of its broader strategic expansion across the UK. The Newcastle-upon-Tyne headquartered firm aims to capitalise on growing demand for architectural and interior design expertise within Scotland’s property and development sectors.
Leading the new Scottish branch is Ewan Ross RIAS, recently appointed as regional architectural director. Ross brings a wealth of experience from commercial projects spanning sports and leisure facilities, bonded warehousing, infrastructure, and large-scale residential developments. He is focused on assembling a skilled local team to support an increasing workload.
Ross highlighted the vibrant nature of Scotland’s architecture market, noting strong interest from residential and commercial developers eager to leverage The Architects-Group’s capabilities. “The architecture market here in Scotland is robust, with growth driven by strong demand with all of our key cities and beyond. So, it’s great news that we are now bringing the Architects-Group brand and resources to Glasgow to support clients with high-quality resources and top-line expertise,” he said.
The firm currently employs 20 staff and operates offices in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Cardiff, Chester, and Saudi Arabia. It anticipates turnover exceeding £3.5 million by 2027, supported by a pipeline of projects and expanding client operations across the UK.
Managing director Tony Harmieson expressed enthusiasm about Ross’s appointment, citing their previous collaboration. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Ewan before, so it’s great to have him with us again to spearhead our plans to build the business in Scotland, strengthening our national ambitions and design capabilities. Having previously worked in Scotland over a decade ago, moving north of the border with the Architects-Group has always been in my mind. It’s therefore a really exciting time for us to be growing an office around such a talented individual in Ewan,” Harmieson said.
Ross will also oversee the firm’s involvement in the Saulmore Bay marina development near Oban. This proposed project on Ardmucknish Bay aims to establish a significant new tourism destination, featuring a 200-boat marina, boat workshop and yard, restaurant, café, retail outlets, artists’ studios, and a community square. Additional amenities include a wellness facility and holiday lodges.
“Designed to respond to its rugged coastal setting, the buildings will combine local stone with contemporary standing-seam metal cladding, while renewable energy technologies will help minimise the development’s environmental impact,” Ross added, emphasising the project’s commitment to sustainability and local character.
