Construction firms are being urged to host workplace tours for the next generation of workers, as the industry gears up to meet the Government’s targets for new homes and infrastructure.
Open Doors 2026 – which is run by Build UK in partnership with CITB and CSCS – will take place between Monday 23 and Saturday 28 March and see companies across the UK hosting pre-booked tours of their sites, offices, manufacturing facilities and training centres to showcase the variety of careers available in construction. CITB will be welcoming visitors to its National Construction College (NCC) sites at Bircham Newton, Inchinnan and Erith.
With CITB’s Construction Workforce Outlook report estimating that the industry needs to recruit around 50,000 extra workers each year to meet demand for housing, infrastructure and maintenance, Build UK is aiming to build on the record 7,000 visitors it welcomed across more than 260 events in March 2025.
Tamsin Parkes, Open Doors Project Manager at Build UK, said:
“A fantastic 88% of visitors to Open Doors 2025 said that they’d be more likely to consider a career in construction after their visit. This shows that giving people the chance to see first-hand the wide range of roles available and meet the talented teams building the world around us has the potential to inspire long-lasting career choices in our industry.

“I would encourage companies across the industry to open their doors next March and show there is a role for everyone in construction whatever their background, interests or skills.
Deb Madden, Executive Director – Customer Engagement and Operations at CITB added:
Registration for Open Doors is now available, and we want to encourage all construction employers to take part in what is always a brilliant showcase for the industry. Open Doors is a great opportunity for our future workforce to go behind the scenes of real construction sites and see the teamwork and collaboration that happens on site.
Open Doors isn’t just for the big companies. We’re encouraging SMEs to engage and offer their sites for visits to show the real face of our industry to potential recruits. We know how crucial all parts of our industry are in supporting new entrants.
Construction businesses of all sizes can sign up to host Open Doors events now by visiting opendoors.construction, with information and support available for those looking to host events for the first time.
