UKREiiF Backs 165,000 Reasons Campaign to Address Child Homelessness in Temporary Accommodation
UKREiiF has confirmed its sponsorship of 165,000 Reasons, a national initiative aimed at improving conditions for children living in temporary housing across the UK. The campaign, which unites local government, charities, and the built environment sector, was initially launched at the UKREiiF event in Leeds in May 2026.
At the heart of the campaign lies a straightforward message: each figure represents a child, and every child is entitled to a safe, appropriate, and stable home. Recent data from 165,000 Reasons reveals that 176,130 children nationwide currently lack a permanent place to live. Many endure overcrowded conditions, frequent relocations, and disruptions to their education, health, and family life.
Through its sponsorship, UKREiiF aims to elevate the campaign’s profile within the property and infrastructure industries. The goal is to encourage organisations with relevant expertise, land resources, investment capacity, and delivery capabilities to contribute practical solutions to reform temporary accommodation.
Nick Kilby, Executive Chair of Cratus Group and founder of 165,000 Reasons, stated: “165,000 Reasons is asking the built environment sector to help turn concern into practical action. The campaign began at UKREiiF, so its decision to sponsor our work is an important next step. Together, we can bring the right organisations around the table and develop solutions that give children greater safety, stability and hope.”
Nathan Spencer, Co-Founding Director and Managing Director at UKREiiF, added: “The temporary accommodation crisis is not solely a housing issue. It affects children’s health, education and future opportunities, while placing immense pressure on local authorities. UKREiiF is proud to support 165,000 Reasons and use our platform to bring together the public and private sectors behind workable solutions.”
The sponsorship follows a series of campaign activities involving local authorities, housing and development bodies, charities, and individuals with lived experience. The initiative is formulating recommendations that focus on raising current standards, accelerating access to settled homes, and implementing long-term reforms to reduce dependence on temporary accommodation.
