According to Google Trends, ‘vinyl flooring’ is currently a BREAKOUT search term – meaning searches for the material are up by more than 5000% over the past year. Here, Neel Bradham, CEO at global flooring brand, Parador, delves into the material’s characteristics, benefits, and recent technological advances, outlining why you should consider opting for vinyl floors.

Why choose vinyl?

“Vinyl is known for its resistance to moisture and climate, making it ideal for rooms like kitchens and bathrooms. It provides the patterns, colours, and textures of natural wood while being affordable and suitable for areas that may often endure excess moisture and spills,” says Bradham.

Busting common myths

“It’s true that in the 1970s, vinyl was popular. However, it was frequently installed poorly which contributed to an unappealing retro design trend,” says Bradham. “A big, seamless sheet of vinyl rolled across a living room floor didn’t look good back then and it certainly doesn’t look good now.”

He continues, “There are still many misconceptions about vinyl, notably that it is cheap-looking and not hard-wearing. But beautiful, natural-looking vinyl designs are now commonplace, and modern manufacturing techniques allow the flooring to be made in different formats, such as tiles and planks. The material is also known for its resistance to moisture and climate, making it ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.”

Trend alert: Two-toned vinyl

Black and white checkerboard floors have been a popular look for decades, but pairing two contrasting shades of wood-look vinyl offers a modern, warm take on the classic style. Discussing this growing trend, Bradham says:

“A two-toned flooring design – which combines pale and darker wood planks in a single scheme – adds visual interest and depth to a room, creating a sense of contrast and dynamism. For example, try a light-and-dark reimagined chevron pattern. This works especially well in minimalist Scandi-inspired spaces, adding texture and pattern whilst remaining neutral.”

Parador’s Trendtime 10 Vinyl collection enables users to mix and match plank styles, effortlessly creating unique geometric patterns. From simple to elaborate compositions, there are no limits to the design possibilities – making it the ideal solution for standout interiors.
