Denbighshire-based Wynne Construction is entering its centenary year with a robust order book exceeding £325 million, positioning the firm for sustained growth and stability. The family-owned company currently manages £228 million worth of active projects, alongside an additional £99 million in secured contracts advancing through pre-construction phases.
These projects cover a broad spectrum of sectors including education, healthcare, housing, leisure and wellbeing, heritage, and low-carbon innovation. Geographically, the company’s work spans Wales and the North West of England, with developments scheduled to continue through to 2030.
Chris Wynne, managing director at Wynne Construction, emphasised the significance of this pipeline, stating: “A strong forward order book is important not only in financial terms, but also because it gives confidence to our workforce and supply chain. We are able to plan resources, develop our teams, and invest in skills, training, and employment opportunities.” He added, “We are proud to be delivering such a diverse range of projects in Wales and the North West of England. While the individual buildings are very different, they are being designed and built to provide long-term benefits for the people and communities that will use them.”
Among the notable schemes underway are the £26 million Leisure and Wellbeing Centre in Newport, the £13 million Ty Haverfordia apartments for over-55s in Pembrokeshire, and the £31 million Aethwy Care facility in Anglesey, which will offer residential care alongside integrated health and social services. Additionally, the company is constructing an £11 million archive centre serving Denbighshire and Flintshire councils.
Wynne Construction’s expertise extends beyond Wales, with projects such as the £4 million Maggie’s Centre in Liverpool, dedicated to supporting individuals affected by cancer.
The firm’s ongoing involvement in public sector frameworks underpins its capacity to deliver technically complex and flagship projects. This year, Wynne Construction has expanded its portfolio with new design and build contracts, including an affordable housing development in Bodelwyddan, the redevelopment of Ysgol Pendref primary school and Denbigh High School in Denbighshire, and the Egni project at Bangor University-led Menai Science Park (M-SParc) in Anglesey.
Reflecting on the milestone, Chris Wynne said: “Reaching our centenary is an important milestone for us. The construction industry continues to face challenging market conditions, including cost pressures and wider economic uncertainty, so to enter our 100th year with a strong and diverse order book is particularly positive. We are extremely grateful to our clients, consultants, supply chain, and particularly our employees, who continue to place their trust in us. We are looking forward to delivering this exciting programme of projects.”
Wynne Construction operates across Wales and the North West of England, delivering high-quality projects in sectors such as education, social housing, healthcare, and sport and leisure. The company holds appointments on several key frameworks, including the North Wales Construction Partnership (NWCP), Pagabo, SEWSCAP, South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework (SSWRCF), Welsh Procurement Alliance, Westworks, and RNLI, highlighting its strong record of collaborative delivery for public and third-sector clients.
