ANWYL Homes has officially begun construction on a new residential project comprising 40 homes in Nantwich. The homebuilder has acquired a three-acre site off Peter De Stapleigh Way, Stapeley, from Muller Property Group, marking the development known as Weaver Forge, which is part of the larger Maylands Park mixed-use initiative.

Mathew Tudor-Owen, land director at Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, “We’re pleased to have acquired three acres of land in Nantwich from Muller Property Group, having worked closely with them to navigate through the planning process.” He added that the new site, along with previously acquired land in Crewe and Sandbach, will enhance their development pipeline and demonstrate their commitment to providing high-quality homes in well-connected locations.

Colin Muller, founder and chief executive of Muller Property Group, highlighted the challenges faced in securing planning consent for the site. He remarked, “While there is a clear and pressing need for new homes in Nantwich, securing consent for this site has required considerable time, investment and persistence.” Muller emphasised the proactive efforts made during the planning process to illustrate how the development would contribute to the local housing supply, including the provision of affordable homes and significant financial contributions to local services.

Muller further stated, “This scheme will not only help address housing demand but also deliver tangible benefits for the wider community through investment in education, healthcare and recreation.” He expressed optimism about the project’s progression, noting the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable growth.

ANWYL Homes plans to invest over £275,000 in the local area through section 106 contributions, which were agreed upon during the planning phase. This investment includes nearly £110,000 for secondary education, around £75,000 for special educational needs, more than £56,000 for recreational and outdoor sports facilities, and over £36,000 for healthcare.

The name Weaver Forge pays homage to the nearby River Weaver, which significantly influenced Nantwich’s trade and salt industry, while “Forge” reflects the town’s industrial heritage. The development will feature a diverse range of homes, from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom detached family residences.

Mathew added, “The housing mix has been planned to ensure we meet the diverse needs of the local community. Along with homes for private sale, 30% of the development will be designated as affordable housing.”

The launch of homes at Weaver Forge will take place remotely from Anwyl’s Elmy Fields development in Congleton on Saturday, April 25, with the first properties anticipated to be ready for occupancy later this year.
