Blue Sky Building to Lead Complex Barbican Centre Renewal Project

Blue Sky Building, a London-based specialist in Construction Management, has been appointed to manage the Barbican Renewal Programme, a major restoration and revitalisation effort at one of the UK’s most significant live heritage sites.

The Barbican Centre, renowned for its post-war Brutalist architecture and status as an internationally recognised arts venue, attracts over 1.5 million visitors annually. The renewal aims to enhance accessibility, sustainability, and ensure the centre’s vitality for the next 50 years. Located within a bustling residential area, the centre features multiple venues, a lakeside terrace, distinctive foyers, and London’s largest conservatory, all of which present unique challenges for the project. Additionally, the building is classified as higher-risk under the Building Safety Act, adding complexity to the renewal works.

This requires meticulous coordination to minimise disruption to residents, visitors, performers, and staff, while preserving the estate’s architectural integrity and maintaining daily operations throughout the construction period.
