(L-r) Boost TA’s Rick Butters, Giles Donovan and Will Roberts
Boost TA, a Northampton-based modular housing company focused on providing relocatable homes to tackle the UK’s temporary accommodation crisis, has appointed Rick Butters as its new director of project management. This move comes as the company continues to scale its operations amidst increasing demand for temporary housing solutions.
Founded in 2024 by Giles Donovan and Will Roberts, Boost TA has recently secured multiple contracts with local authorities, highlighting the urgent need for innovative temporary accommodation options across the UK. The firm’s modular homes allow local authorities to quickly offer high-quality temporary housing, reducing dependence on expensive hotel placements and private rental markets.
Rick Butters joins Boost TA with over 25 years of experience in residential development and industrialised construction projects throughout the UK and Europe. His career has seen him collaborate with manufacturers that specialise in Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and industrialised building systems across various regions, including the Baltics and the Nordics.
In his new role, Butters will oversee project delivery for Boost TA’s growing portfolio, managing the coordination of design, manufacturing, and site installation to facilitate the swift deployment of modular homes for local authority partners. His extensive background includes senior leadership positions at WElink Homes, BoKlok (the joint venture between IKEA and Skanska), ilke Homes, Unite Modular Solutions, and EBS ELK. He possesses significant expertise in programme delivery, contractor and consultant management, governance, and the integration of offsite manufacturing with on-site construction.
Giles Donovan, co-founder of Boost TA, commented on the appointment: “Demand for high-quality temporary accommodation is rising sharply as councils look for faster, more cost-effective housing solutions. Rick’s experience in modular delivery and large-scale housing programmes will help us scale our delivery capability and support local authorities in bringing new homes into use more quickly. Rick is a fantastic addition to the team and will help us deliver the communities we are creating for councils.”
Mr Butters expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating: “The extent of the temporary accommodation challenge facing local authorities means the sector needs faster, more flexible housing solutions. The Boost TA approach combines high-quality British manufacturing with rapid on-site deployment, providing councils with a practical way to deliver safe, energy-efficient accommodation quickly while avoiding the long lead times and high costs of traditional construction. I am excited to hit the ground running with two projects to deliver over 100 urgently needed new homes in the coming months.”
Boost TA’s relocatable homes are produced offsite in Yorkshire using predominantly recyclable materials, with the capability to deliver more than 10 apartments in a single day once groundwork and services are prepared. This innovative approach offers significant capital and time savings compared to other temporary accommodation options, effectively replacing costly hotel stays and private rental stock.
