Cairn Hotel Group, a prominent player in the UK hospitality sector, has successfully secured a new set of Green Tourism accreditations, reflecting its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. Following a successful year in 2025, during which the group garnered multiple gold and silver awards, it now boasts a total of 28 Green Tourism accreditations, comprising 12 gold and 16 silver awards.

The Green Tourism certification, evaluated by a panel of experts, acknowledges travel and hospitality businesses that exhibit a strong dedication to sustainable practices. Establishments that meet the necessary criteria are recognised with bronze, silver, or gold accreditation.

This year, four hotels within the group have been awarded gold accreditations after achieving a score of 80% or higher for their sustainability efforts. The newly accredited properties include Holiday Inn Aberdeen West, Holiday Inn Express Aberdeen City Centre, Redworth Hall, and Hotel Indigo London – Kensington.

Building on its previous achievements, eight hotels from Cairn Hotel Group have retained their gold status, including Courtyard By Marriott Glasgow Airport, Crowne Plaza Gerrards Cross, Elmbank York, Holiday Inn Jesmond (which received its second gold award for green meetings), DoubleTree By Hilton Majestic Harrogate Hotel & Spa, Hotel Indigo Edinburgh Princes Street, and DoubleTree By Hilton Newcastle Airport.

Among the silver award recipients are Royal Station Hotel Newcastle, Stoke Place, Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre, and Stirling Highland Hotel, contributing to a total of 16 silver accreditations across the group.

The recent certifications are a result of various environmental initiatives implemented in 2025, aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of guests, employees, and local communities. Throughout the group, hotels have prioritised greener operations, bolstered local charity partnerships, and adopted practical measures to minimise their environmental footprint.

At Holiday Inn Aberdeen West, for instance, initiatives included collaborations with Cash for Kids, SensationALL, Children in Need, and Comic Relief, alongside the introduction of reuse schemes for lost property that have benefitted local schools and fundraising efforts. Similarly, Redworth Hall has established several charity partnerships, including Charity Escapes, which donates 5% of bar takings from charity events to support local causes. The hotel has also made notable advancements in energy management, with comprehensive monitoring of energy consumption, participation in biomass initiatives, and assistance to neighbouring properties by supplying energy from its main infrastructure.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy supported by dedicated Green Champions at each location, who oversee sustainability goals and ensure ongoing improvement. Tina O’Hara, Commercial Director at Cairn Hotel Group, stated: “Building on last year’s success, these accreditations are a clear indication of the progress we’re making as a group. This kind of dedication and growth doesn’t happen by chance; it reflects the focus, ownership, and daily efforts of our team across the business. “Now, just three years into our Green Tourism journey, these results show the progress we’re making and the momentum we’re continuing to build. This isn’t about one-off results or a tick box exercise; it’s about embedding practices that become part of how we operate, and that stay with us for the long term.”
