Construction Commences on £40 Million Student Accommodation in Manchester
Tiger Developments has officially commenced construction on a new purpose-built student accommodation project in Manchester, representing a notable contribution to the city’s expanding student housing sector. The development, situated on Carmoor Road and within walking distance of the University of Manchester, will feature 172 high-quality bedrooms.
With a gross development value of £40 million, the project is being financed by Tiger Developments in partnership with Hampshire Trust Bank. The construction will be carried out by GMI Construction Group, a specialist main contractor, with the completion anticipated for the academic year 2027/28.
To enhance affordability for students from lower-income backgrounds, approximately 15% of the rooms will be available at discounted market rates. The development aims to achieve BREEAM Excellent and EPC A ratings, underscoring a strong commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
This initiative is strategically positioned to address the increasing demand for professionally managed student housing in one of the UK’s largest university cities. It is part of Tiger Developments’ ongoing expansion in key university locations across the UK, which includes two other student accommodation projects currently underway in Bristol.
John Nesbitt, Executive Director at Tiger Developments, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating: “We are delighted to begin construction on our latest scheme in Manchester, a city that has strong demand for well-located student accommodation. This development reflects our commitment to delivering sustainable, thoughtfully designed homes for students, while also contributing positively to the local community. Through our trusted student housing brand Host, we look forward to welcoming students in time for the 2027/28 academic year.”
Andrew Dignum from Hampshire Trust Bank added: “We are pleased to support Tiger Developments in delivering this high-quality student housing scheme in Manchester. By combining our shared expertise and aligned vision, we are bringing forward a well-designed and sustainable development that responds to clear demand in one of the UK’s strongest student markets. This collaboration reflects our commitment to building long-term partnerships with experienced teams to create lasting value.”
