Envoy Secures Majority Stake in Ecosystems Technologies in Push for Greener Construction

Inverness-based investment group Envoy has announced a majority stake in Ecosystems Technologies, a company renowned for its sustainable timber-based modular buildings. This investment marks Envoy’s 30th since its establishment in 2019 and was revealed during the group’s biennial Insights conference held in Edinburgh, which saw the participation of 160 leaders from its global operations.

Ecosystems Technologies, founded by Matt Stevenson and headquartered in Invergordon, aims to facilitate the transition to a carbon-negative built environment. The firm employs a team of 33 dedicated to enhancing technological innovation and environmental performance in construction through the design and manufacture of sustainable modular buildings.

Iain MacGregor, Founder and CEO of Envoy, expressed enthusiasm about the investment, stating: “We are delighted to announce our investment in Ecosystems Technologies and to welcome Matt Stevenson and his team to the group. Matt is an industry leader in modular and low-carbon design. He has pioneered the use of natural, homegrown timber solutions that deliver carbon-neutral, energy-efficient building systems. His vision and passion for sustainable innovation are inspiring. We are proud to support Ecosystems’ ambitions to create meaningful buildings, as well as positive environmental impact.”

Matt Stevenson, the Founder of Ecosystems Technologies, shared his excitement about the partnership with Envoy: “We’re beyond excited to be partnering with Envoy. From our initial conversations, their culture and approach to investment stood out. We have been enjoying a strong collaboration with RSE, one of Envoy’s portfolio of businesses, over the last few years. This direct partnership with Envoy unlocks new opportunities for Ecosystems, allowing us to collaborate with businesses across the wider group to further develop innovative solutions and accelerate our growth. At Ecosystems, our mission has always been to rethink how buildings are designed and delivered. With Envoy’s support, we can scale that impact faster, bringing more sustainable, high-quality building solutions to market and contribute to a built environment that works in harmony with nature.”

At the Edinburgh event, Envoy also introduced a new brand and website, with discussions focused on the group’s future strategy. Iain MacGregor said: “This is an exciting time for Envoy. Seven years in, we have reached £500 million in combined group revenue, thanks to the collective efforts of our 3,500-strong team. While our look has evolved with the launch of our new brand and website, our values and commitment to our partners remain unchanged – and our ambition for the future is stronger than ever.”

He continued, “We do not measure success purely in financial terms. From the outset, our goal with Envoy was to bring a different approach to investing, partnering with exceptional founder-led businesses and support them in creating lasting impact. Our investment in Ecosystems Technologies exemplifies this approach. It reflects our ambition to partner with more founders who are driving meaningful, positive change – backing businesses that are not only shaping their industries, but helping to build a more sustainable future.”
