Harlaxton Manor Reopens for August Bank Holiday Summer Open House

Harlaxton Manor, a Grade I listed estate often likened to a hidden Hogwarts in Lincolnshire, is set to reopen its doors to the public over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The Summer Open House event will take place on Sunday 30th and Monday 31st August, offering visitors a chance to explore one of Britain’s most captivating historic country houses.

Constructed in 1831 for Nottinghamshire businessman Gregory Gregory, the manor boasts a unique architectural blend of Elizabethan, Jacobean, and Baroque styles. Throughout its history, Harlaxton Manor has served various roles, including as an officers’ mess during both world wars and a training centre for Jesuit priests. Today, it functions as the British campus of the University of Evansville from Indiana and opens to visitors on select dates annually.

During the open house, guests can tour the manor’s ornate interiors and stroll through its meticulously maintained formal gardens at their leisure. The event will also feature traditional lawn games, a Pimms station, and a summer barbecue, creating a relaxed atmosphere for families, friends, and history enthusiasts alike.

The manor is located just off the A1 near the borders of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire. This year’s event will include live performances by Nottingham-based vocalist and musician duo Maia & John, known for their expressive vocals and accomplished guitar work, alongside classically trained pianist Bill Kibby, who will provide an uplifting soundtrack throughout the weekend.

Harlaxton Manor’s rich history and distinctive architecture have made it a sought-after location for weddings, events, and film productions, including Amazon Prime’s “Citadel” and the 1999 cult horror film “The Haunting.”

Tickets for the Summer Open House are priced at £16 for adults, £13 for concessions (aged 65 and over), and £8.50 for children aged 2 to 16. Family tickets for two adults and up to three children are available for £45, while children under two enter free. Free on-site parking is provided, and advance booking is recommended.
