Pall-Ex South West - New Hub

Pall-Ex Group has announced an £8 million investment to develop two new logistics hubs in the South West of England, aiming to enhance its service capacity and sustainability in the region.

The company plans to open a 218,000 sq ft facility in Willand, Devon, named Pall-Ex South West, expected to be operational by Summer 2026. This new hub will replace the existing site located less than half a mile away, with current staff relocating to the expanded premises. The workforce is set to grow by 15%, creating roles in customer service, night planning, warehouse operations, and forklift driving. The increased capacity will enable the site to handle over 60 vehicles per night across both new locations.

In Cornwall, Pall-Ex Logistics has already launched a 114,000 sq ft purpose-built hub in Launceston. This facility offers storage for up to 3,500 pallets and manages the movement of 650 pallets daily. The Launceston hub will also see a 10 to 15% increase in staffing, with new positions in warehouse operations, supervision, and management.

Both hubs incorporate sustainability measures such as all-electric forklift fleets, solar panel installations, and green water filtration systems. These features are designed to meet the highest BREEAM environmental standards, reflecting Pall-Ex’s commitment to eco-friendly logistics solutions.

The South West peninsula has long been recognised as a challenging area for deliveries due to its geography, yet it remains a significant logistics market. Pall-Ex has experienced consistent growth in the region over the past five years, prompting the need for larger, purpose-built facilities to support expanding customer demand.

Barry Byers, chief operating officer of Pall-Ex Group, commented on the investment: “The South West has always been a challenging location for distribution companies. Yet in the past five years, we’ve generated unprecedented growth here, with more and more businesses around the region demanding a reliable and robust logistics network. With that growth, though, comes the need to evolve. That’s why the time feels right to make this significant investment to ensure that our distribution services are up to the challenge.”

He added, “The last 30 years have been all about adapting and future-proofing the business; whether through supporting our partners around the country, investing in the latest technology to provide them with unparalleled visibility, or by enhancing our regional distribution services. This announcement really is testament to the hard work put in to get us where we are now in the South West, so that we can make sure we’re perfectly positioned to tackle the regional challenges of the next three decades.”

This expansion follows Pall-Ex’s 30th anniversary earlier this year, marking three decades of growth from a national to an international logistics provider. The new South West hubs represent the next phase in the company’s ongoing development strategy.
