Premier Modular Delivers Rapid 46-Unit Learning Village in Record Time
St Peter's Junior School in Nottinghamshire Modular Buildings
Premier Modular has successfully delivered four new modular buildings to St Peter’s C of E Junior School in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, facilitating the return of 350 pupils following the permanent closure of the previous school building due to structural concerns. This initiative marks one of the swiftest temporary building deployments in the UK.
The newly constructed learning village, developed for Arc Partnership on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, comprises 46 modules that include a variety of facilities. These encompass dining and catering areas, double classroom blocks, one- and two-storey classrooms, offices, staff rooms, and an IT suite with a server room.
Thanks to effective collaboration among Premier Modular, Arc Partnership, Nottinghamshire County Council, and school officials, the transition for students affected by the closure has been seamless, allowing them to return to full-time education without disruption. The modular buildings are designed to be high-quality, energy-efficient, and finished to a premium standard.
The entire project was completed in just twelve weeks from the start of construction, and within sixteen weeks of the original school closure. Premier Modular provided a comprehensive package that included groundwork, design, construction, delivery, and installation of the modular units, as well as the creation of ramps, steps, pathways, and other essential features to enhance the site.
Steve Bygott, Sales Development Manager at Premier Modular, stated: “Through design, Manufacturing and Operations, our team have delivered this critical facility in approximately half the standard delivery timeframe. We were able to work with Arc Partnership, St Peter’s, Nottinghamshire County Council, and our subcontractors to carry out surveys and design the substructure and foundations, whilst considering staff and student requirements for the buildings and site. Our team quickly identified what was needed and delivered it in just a few weeks. We are proud of that.”
Daniel Maher, Managing Director at Arc Partnership, commented: “Delivering the temporary village in just three months is an incredible achievement by all concerned. The quick and efficient turnaround means that pupils are now back learning among their peers and teachers with minimal disruption. Arc Partnership is proud to have supported this significant project on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, and we now look forward to delivering a high-quality new school that will serve the pupils and community for the future.”
Mick Barton, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, expressed pride in the rapid completion of the project, noting its importance in restoring the school site. He remarked: “It was a real team effort with contractors and council colleagues working around the clock to get this ready in record-breaking time. We hope this temporary home will provide a great environment to learn, with catering on site, a school hall and SEND provisions.”
The temporary learning village has been strategically positioned next to the old school building, allowing students to access the site once more. Plans are underway for the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a new school, with central government funding from the School Rebuilding Programme already announced.
Premier Modular is committed to sustainable building practices, and this project prioritises sustainability and circularity. Offsite manufacturing techniques are being employed to minimise waste, emissions, and energy consumption, ensuring that all materials and structures are recyclable at the end of their lifecycle.
