Southern Housing marks 125 years with open day at four developments
Southern Housing New Homes will host an anniversary open day at four developments in London and Sussex on Saturday 17th October 2026, offering prospective buyers the chance to view homes and mark the organisation’s 125th year.
Visitors to Wharf Twenty One, Home X, Glengall Rise and Wickside can drop in during the afternoon for drinks and cakes, and take away a small gift. Buyers who decide to proceed with a reservation on the day will be offered a £125 reservation fee.*
Four sites open to visitors
The event spans four developments, each offering a different setting and range of homes. At Wharf Twenty One in Shoreham-by-Sea, buyers can view contemporary one- and two-bedroom Shared Ownership apartments beside the river. The scheme forms part of the wider regeneration of Shoreham Harbour, with coastal walks, cafés and shops nearby.
In Brighton, Home X is part of the Preston Barracks regeneration in Moulsecoomb. Its one- and two-bedroom apartments have contemporary interiors, while landscaped communal areas provide outdoor space. Shops, cafés and Moulsecoomb station are close by, connecting the development with central Brighton and other destinations.
Glengall Rise, in North Peckham, offers one-, two- and three-bedroom homes for Shared Ownership or Open Market Sale. The homes have light-filled, open-plan interiors. The development also retains the site’s kiln chimney and is near Burgess Park and local independent cafés and shops.
At Wickside in Hackney Wick, Bridge House—the first phase—is now available, with a second phase due to launch soon. The one- and two-bedroom homes feature interiors inspired by the area’s industrial heritage and include private outdoor space. Nearby are independent cafés, cultural venues, Hackney Wick station, Victoria Park and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
A legacy dating to 1901
Southern Housing traces its origins to 1901, when philanthropist Samuel Lewis left money in his will to establish a charitable trust providing safe, affordable housing for people in need. Under the guidance of his wife, Ada, the Samuel Lewis Trust opened its first estate in Islington in 1910, comprising 151 apartments. Southern Housing still owns and manages that estate.
The organisation now provides 80,000 homes and says it continues the charitable purpose behind the original trust by reinvesting its income into homes and services. Its anniversary open day brings that history together with an invitation for prospective buyers to explore its current developments.
Jane Williams, Head of Sales at Southern Housing, said: “For 125 years, Southern Housing’s purpose has centred on providing homes where people can put down roots and build their futures. This anniversary is a chance to celebrate that history and welcome the people who will help shape our communities in the years ahead.
“Whether just starting out on their search of ready to make a move, we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors across our London and Sussex developments for cake, conversation and the chance to imagine their next chapter.”
