The Green Block Consulting Accelerates UK Rollout of Waste Segregation Technology, Boosts Recycling Rates
The Green Block ramps up UK rollout after recycling rates at London Bridge jump from 12% to 90%
Specialist facilities management consultancy, The Green Block Consulting (TGB) is accelerating the nationwide rollout of its pioneering and patented on-site waste segregation technology, helping businesses improve recycling rates, cut transport emissions, and meet ambitious sustainability targets.
The Berkshire-based business designed and developed its ground-breaking Mobile Segregation Unit (MSU) machinery in 2020 to transform how waste is managed. By sorting different types of waste on-site, the technology avoids the need for costly off-site sorting, increases recycling rates, and gives businesses greater transparency over their waste. This makes it easier to track performance, take accountability, and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill – supporting the UK’s zero waste to landfill goals.
With MSUs now operating in eight locations across the UK – including key transport hubs like Birmingham Airport and the Southbank Centre, the UK’s largest arts venue – TGB is helping businesses take greater responsibility for their waste and better understand their environmental impact.
Marking a major step in TGB’s ambitious growth journey, the business is ramping up production and accelerating the nationwide rollout of its patented technology, driven by the goal to give more businesses a simple yet effective way to improve recycling.
The technology’s impact is already evident at London Bridge station, where the introduction of the MSU has increased recycling rates from just 12% to between 80 and 90%.
Alongside environmental benefits, the expansion is delivering social value, with the business creating more than 30 new sustainable jobs to date and working in partnership with charities such as No Going Back, which helps rehabilitate ex-offenders by providing employment opportunities and green skills development within the growing MSU network.
The increased production and rollout has been supported by a £45,000 Asset Finance loan from Lloyds. The funding has allowed TGB to invest in essential machinery that allows for the important process of compressing and tightly wrapping recyclable materials, and glass-crushing. Not only will this improve on-site recycling performance, but it will reduce waste transport emissions by up to 80-90%, and deliver cleaner, baled recyclable materials to domestic processing facilities.
Russell Lucas, Business Development at TGB, said: “The latest stage of our national expansion marks a significant step in our mission to help businesses manage waste more sustainably and responsibly.
“The support from Lloyds has been instrumental in helping us scale our operations and invest in the equipment we need to accelerate the rollout of our one-of-a-kind technology. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the real environmental and social value it’s already delivering, and we’re excited to build on that momentum and explore how much more impact we can achieve in the months ahead.”
Chris Luffman, Relationship Manager at Lloyds Bank, said: “The Green Block Consulting is a prime example of how innovation can deliver meaningful, sustainable value, both environmentally and socially.
“Not only is the business enabling organisations to operate more responsibly, but it is also creating opportunities for individuals to develop vital green skills. We’re proud to be supporting their expansion and look forward to seeing the positive impact they continue to deliver for businesses, communities, and the environment.”
