Liverpool ONE Launches Secure Cycle Hub Ahead of 2027 Tour de France Grand Départ

Liverpool ONE has unveiled a new Cycle Hub on Thomas Steers Way, adjacent to the Sugar House Steps, providing secure storage for up to 50 bicycles. This facility is available to residents, staff, and visitors as the city prepares to host the finish of stage two of the men’s Tour de France Grand Départ on 3 July 2027.
The introduction of the Cycle Hub coincides with the arrival of the Tour de France Trophy Roadshow at Liverpool ONE, where the public can view the prestigious trophy on Paradise Street ahead of the race. The Tour de France is a major global sporting event, drawing approximately 12 million live spectators annually and reaching a television audience of 150 million across Europe in over 180 countries.
Brendan Hattam, Centre Director at Liverpool ONE, emphasised the importance of promoting cycling and sustainability in the city. He stated, “Excitement is really building ahead of next year’s hugely anticipated Tour de France, and we want to make sure that cycling and sustainability will be at the heart of the city.”
Brendan added, “The eyes of the world will be on Liverpool when we welcome this global sporting spectacle next year, and we want to play our part in spreading the positive message that cyclists of all ages and abilities can saddle up and explore this unique city knowing there’s a safe place to store their bikes.”
He concluded, “We’re proud to be part of the community and fabric of the city and we want to make sure we’re offering sustainable choices for guests travelling to visit us.”
Paul Bush, Managing Director of Grand Départ GB, expressed enthusiasm about the trophy’s presence in Liverpool. He said, “We are excited to be bringing the Grand Départ trophy to Liverpool, and it is fitting that the trophy tour is in the city as Liverpool ONE unveil their new bicycle hub.”
Paul highlighted the significance of the upcoming event, stating, “The next year is sure to bring lots of excitement to the Liverpool City Region, as we build-up to what will be a fantastic event, with a very exciting finish in an iconic location, that will put the city firmly on the cycling map.”
