Brown is experiencing a significant resurgence in home interiors, according to Japanese tile specialist Mittsu. Data from Pinterest Trends* highlights a marked increase in searches related to brown-themed décor over the past year, signalling a shift towards warmer, earthier colour schemes among homeowners.
Specifically, searches for terms such as ‘brown living room aesthetic’ and ‘brown bedroom décor’ have surged by 200 per cent in the last 12 months. Meanwhile, interest in ‘brown bathroom’ designs has grown by 70 per cent in Great Britain and Ireland, reflecting a broader embrace of these tones across various living spaces.
Mittsu is now showcasing how brown tiles can be incorporated into kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas to enhance this trend. The company emphasises that brown tiles add depth and a timeless quality to walls, creating spaces that feel both inviting and enduring.
Ian Reynolds, Founder of Mittsu, commented: “Brown has an incredibly grounding effect in the home. It brings a sense of comfort, helping rooms feel more inviting and cocooning without becoming overpowering. Its growing popularity also reflects a wider move towards natural, earthy interiors and colours that feel timeless rather than trend-led.”
Mittsu’s collection of authentic brown-hued Japanese tiles stands out because the colour, texture, and surface character develop naturally during the kiln-firing process rather than through printed patterns. This method results in each tile exhibiting subtle variations in tone and glaze movement.
When arranged across a surface, these natural differences combine to form a unique composition of colour and texture, avoiding the repetitive appearance often seen with printed designs. This approach lends a handcrafted quality to the tiles, enhancing the overall aesthetic of any room.
Ian further explained: “Japanese tiles take the look to another level because they bring craftsmanship into the scheme. Their nuanced glazes and beautifully imperfect finishes allow light to move across the surface, revealing different tones throughout the day. This gives brown far more dimension, turning what could be a simple neutral into a rich and characterful design feature.”
Mittsu’s brown Japanese tiles are currently available, with prices starting at £138.89 per square metre, offering homeowners a distinctive option to incorporate this growing trend into their interiors.
