Construction has commenced on a new Sainsbury’s Local convenience store in Edwalton, near Nottingham. The project is being developed by Charterpoint, who have appointed Derby-based Davlyn Construction to build the retail unit.
The store will be operated by Sainsbury’s and is situated on a plot at the corner of Rose Way and Melton Road. This development forms part of a larger site that also includes a retirement apartment scheme. The apartments are being constructed by Vistry Group for Anchor, a not-for-profit housing provider that will manage the residences.
Adrian Goose, CEO of Charterpoint, said: “We’re delighted to see construction now underway for this Sainsbury’s Local. Well known for their high-quality food retail offer and we’re proud to have Sainsbury’s as part of our Edwalton development. Residents can now look forward to welcoming a modern neighbourhood store that will add real value to the local area.”
Hetvi Parekh, Rushcliffe Borough Council Edwalton ward Councillor, commented: “The new Sainsbury’s in Edwalton is a welcome addition to our community, improving access to affordable groceries while creating local jobs. It will make everyday shopping more convenient for residents and support the local economy, and we look forward to the positive impact it will bring.”
The development is financed by The Drummond Trust, marking their second funding partnership with Charterpoint following last year’s success with the neighbourhood centre at New Lubbesthorpe, which received awards.
Martin Ward, Trustee of The Drummond Trust, added: “It is excellent to be working with Charterpoint again and to see the progress being made at this local centre. The addition of a high-quality convenience store like Sainsbury’s adds another positive dimension to the scheme, which will significantly benefit the local community.”
The new Sainsbury’s Local will cover 4,000 square feet and offer a range of fresh products including bread, cakes, fruit and vegetables, meat, and fish. It will also feature an in-store Click & Collect service for Argos, Habitat, and Tu Clothing. The store is scheduled to open before the end of the year.
